Howard Middle School Teacher Named D.C. Teacher of the Year

D.C. education officials surprised Kimberly Worthy, the seventh grade social studies and language arts teacher, from the Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science on Friday morning when they announced that she won the 2009 District of Columbia Teacher of the Year contest.

University Gallery of Art Receives Lois M. Jones Painting

The Howard University Gallery of Art, home to more than 4,000 eclectic pieces, will receive a historic painting by prolific artist Lois Mailou Jones from Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation on Dec. 4, 2008.

The unique oil and canvas piece dated 1938 captures a charming streetscape painted from an apartment window in Montmartre, France, where Jones lived for a brief time. This piece joins 13 compelling works donated in 2006 by the artist’s estate. Read More
